Unfortunate. The rotrex unit is supposed to last for hundreds of thousands of kilometers, their description. I assume you've checked that your supercharger oil is lower and it is in fact supercharger oil?

Best of luck,

I'm currently doing a lot of reading online on SC setups, and JRSC + JR oil cooler seems like a very attractive setup for my intended use of DD + weekend track day car.

With that said, I also intend to add a UEL header and full header-back exhaust setup(most likely full JDL setup) with the SC and have a couple questions.

1. Should I go with 2.5" or 3" exhaust? I do not plan to add more power in the future, so if 2.5" is sufficient for standard boost levels JRSC provides, then I guess there is no reason to spend extra money + bear with additional noise of 3" setup.

2. I plan to buy a catted UEL header, but I don't know if I should buy a catted or catless FP. Would a second cat be beneficial in any way or will 1 cat be enough to pass sniffer test?

What do you guys think?

We have similar plans and I'm already saving up. I have a full exhaust already though and I can tell you that since you will need a tune anyways, go with a catless UEL. Catted UEL is usually for people who want to keep their warranty and not tune.

The exhaust wont make you any extra power.

Is the header purely for sound? Sniffer test depends on where you live.

Can you please elaborate on which part of the exhaust will not make any power? Are you talking about OP+FP+catback or catback only? I'm assuming there is no reason to opt for full 3" header-back setup judging from your reply, correct?

As for the header, I want it for both sound and additional power. I used to own a STi and I just love the rumble. :p

I live in Korea and we have to pass sniffer test every 2 years. There are ways around it, but I like to keep everything perfectly legal if I can.

BTW, off-topic, but it seems like you and your shop is pretty famous among Korean 86 community, Mike.

This kit is the best choice for me (and several others too I'm sure), than ANY and ALL the other sc or turbo kits out there currently. I was almost certain to just sticking with NA and being close to stock engine/power (for reliability, simplicity and being smog legal)...but, I dont mind going FI anymore with this JRSC kit, and I really want it now.

I just wish there were much more videos though (for entertainment)!!! I mean, there's so many users and owners of this kit now!!! And there's like what..? 2-5 low quality iPhone YouTube clips!!! What's going on lol? I guess they're having too much fun with it haha

Maybe someone should really think about lending their JRSC FT86 to a quality YouTube video channel for a proper and quality video review and comparison too maybe. Preferably with /Drive (with Chris Harris) or Motor Trend (with Randy Pobst) behind the wheel at the track. And maybe even also compared to a Porsche Cayman S or 996 Base (since they would have similar power, weight, handling, balance and track abilities to a JRSC 86). That would make for a super excellent video!!!
I agree LOL. I am close to pulling the trigger on this kit. Just need a little more motivation LOL.

Assuming you're talking catback, you will not make any extra power; the primary restriction is the catalytic converters, which you are not removing. If you get a header and a headerback exhaust setup, then you WILL gain power, but you will also need a retune. The Jackson Racing supplied tune requires the cats to be in place.

I keep hearing things about area86, but I can't actually register on Naver so I have no idea what's going on :p
