Michelin Pilot Super Sports on 17x8 RPF1s: 225/45/17 or 245/40/17

I am trying to decide between these two sizes for tires for 17x8 RPF1s +45. This is my daily driver but I attend 5-10 HPDEs per year. I'm lowered ~1.5 on Feal 441s. I'm leaning towards the 245/40/17 but a little fearful of rubbing. Anyone lowered around the same amount have experience with either tire size? IS the 245 too much tire for stock power (CBE and Perrin panel filter)?

I think a 245/40 is going to be a bit too much tire. What are you plans with the car? If its staying N/A 225/45/17 would be good choice. At least, from what I have read.

Staying N/A. At most headers, but nothing in the immediate future. Just really looking for a solid balance between daily driving and HPDEs.

@wparsons has 225 on his 17X8 RPF1's and seems to like them.

I have 245 PSS on wider wheels... but in any case... yeah its probably overkill in the grip department. I cant even light up my traction control lately. 225's are probably a great balance.

I used to have 245/40/17 on 17x8 +35 rpf1s, only less than 1" drop and there was lots of room. The grip is too much for stock power to be able to have fun with, if you like some slip, but the biggest drawback was the tire being too wide for the wheel. Turn in was more sloppy and diluted, and in the wet the grip gets dodgy.

Awesome feedback fellas. Looks like I'll be going with 225/45/17 PSSs.

You can squeeze a 245 onto an 8" wheel, but if you want 245 get a 9" wheel to begin with. You'll have better feel and more grip.

Off topic but what are you going to do with the RS-3's?

Just ordered PSS in 225/45-17 for 17x8 Enkeis from discounttiredirect.com. Free shipping and $70 rebate for 4 tires. My current PSS in the same size are at 4/32 tread, need to make them into slicks at LRP AX before new rubber goes on.

Thinking of picking up some MPSS too in 225/45/17...Tirecrazy has them for $130/tire with free shipping right now.

Running them until they're too bald to keep. I'm not sure if the AD08R's will even get mounted this year at the rate I typically go through tires.
