Careful on the ethanol free gas. It may be listed as premium but it is usually 91 octane not 93. The manual (at least mine does) actually calls for 93 octane. I don't know if Ethanol free 91 is equivalent or not. I think not just because its listed at 91. That means it doesn't burn as hot as 93. You might have to put a booster supplement in a 91 octane tank of fuel.

The nice part about adding ethanol, or other alcohol based fuel, is that it burns hotter, combusts faster. Trouble with it is that it provides almost no lubricant and can burn the crap out of the engine depending on the percentage of it in the fuel. That's why it is limited to a percentage by most states at this point. You could burn 100% alcohol based fuel easy and have great performance (as drag cars can show you) but you would have to rebuild the engine at regular intervals. Most people don't want to do that lol. So 91 with a booster is probably better than 93 with ethanol, but its gonna cost you more to do.

The manual says that 93 is recommended but a minimum of 91 is required. You do not need to add octane booster to 91. The 91 works just fine for daily driving but you do loss a very small amount of power so it would suck for any race/track application.
Oh and 93 doesn't "burn hotter" but burns better in a high compression engine since it doesn't pre ignite like lower octane gas does.

Gas Premium or regular

Also keep in mind that the higher the altitude you are in the less octane you will need. So at higher altitudes DO NOT use premium ever. Regular should work fine in our vans. Just stay away from "crappy" 2nd rate gas stations. Stick with the big names like Mobil/Shell, etc.

Yeah 91 is fine. I believe the car is retarding the ignition a bit, at least for me at sea level in the summer, but thanks to availability my car us unlikely to ever see higher than 91unless it goes on some really, really long road trips.

Source? And sorry, but recommending not using the gasoline that is required/recommended for these cars is just stupid, as any engine troubles you have would not be covered by warranty.

Or you're trolling, in which case, good job.

Sorry, we're a little bit behind the rest of the world on here on the east coast. Or at least that's what the lamplighter tells me.

i just got my frs 2015 and i have no idea what the dealer filled up with - but i lost alot of gas. maybe its because i havent driven manual in so many years and reving to high . my first car was a civic DX almost 9 years ago and havent driven manual since.

i filled up today and didnt know what to put as i have had mixed reviews here on the board... i went into a shell first sat there for 2 minutes then went across the street to petro to fill up 94 for 2 cents cheaper.

drove 100km today and it hasnt even hit the 3/4 mark. I'm guessing 94 is giving some more mileage. I dont want to be switching back and forth so im probably gonna stay with the 94.

ps... i didnt read all the posts so ill just add to more speculation

well hope I can help, answer to your question run no less than 91 no more than 93 and DONT run e85 or any high octane unless your running a supported tune . Fuel quality is very important in modern engines and of course the fa20 being a high compression motor having the best performance is going to be required by you and only you putting the fuel recommended for the car in the car . Modern motors have sensors that detect knock (knock is bad) shitty fuel qualities and fuels that are not suppose to be used with stock ecu tunes can cause intense knock which can in the future cause severe harm to your engine, but that's another topic
