I use my AC all the time, stage 1 vortech v3 kit, using the belt that came with it. Had the kit in place since spring 2013 and haven't had any issues. No issues downshifting either.

1) some have said they no longer use the AC to reduce stress on the belt. Is this overkill? I live in the PNW and the air is always wet, I am always using the defroster with the AC. Thoughts?
2) some have mentioned this belt also will struggle under regular downshifting. I am a daily driver, no track. Should I start learning how to de-celerate with no downshifting and just invest in extra brake pads? Thoughts?
Hi
It is completely dependent on your driving habits...
Off course you can down shift and use your AC and if you drive like a normal person the belt could last as long as the original one (without the stress of the blower)... BUT you have to understand that the belt was design for certain amount of power, and the belt (black or blue) could move the blower with ANY pulley. In my case everything was and is aligned (SC, belt, pulleys) but if I try to use my car as I fly my motocross bikes I have change belts 3 to 4 times per oil change (3k miles), and I believe that's not so bad, if I went the turbo way and drive like I run out of medications maybe the engine and/or the trany were the things braking.

So it is a good idea to have an additional belt and some basic tools on the trunk, it doesn't hurt and could be change in 15 min without removing the sc.

Enjoy

That is ridiculous.

Yup, that's why I change the way I drive, specially down shifting. If you try to get hot to a tight turn (late braking and down shift "aggressive" so the rpms get close to the rev limiter with the rear tires braking traction just before full throttle again "that could be 2 or 3 gears at the same time" (on the AT cars you can even down shift 4 gears at the same time)... But all that spinning in so little time is NO good for the belt... Also change the differential bushings (they start early wear noise) and yes this is abusing from the car, but that's why I didn't buy something expensive

So yes you can down shift, you can up shift, you can use you AC and you can even go to track events and the unit would hold.

As side note: it is more "rewarding" (and would let you know you car better) to take the turns in 3 or 4 gear at 35-45 mph... But then a little bit of more midrange would be welcome. Already with the 4.88 final drive.

Anyway take care and have fun

What size belt are you guys running? I was having to change my belt almost every 1000 miles (Gates Blue K060975rb). Emailed Vortech and they said that is the wrong size (even though manual states 97.5" belt) and stated that the k060970 (97.0") belt is the correct size on the 9psi pulley. Too bad gates doesnt make the blue belt in that size, or i just can't find it on their site.

Still on my original belt that came with the kit.

About 8.5k miles, 2 years. All seasons.

Is anyone running the Vortech V2 with an OFT tune? I'm putting together a custom kit and I'm hoping to not have to replace my OFT.

The OFT supports the Vortech version 3 with stock pulley. You will need a different tuning solution with the 3

I knew about the V3 in the OFT300 Kit. Wasn't sure how close they'd be since the V2 and V3 are very similar.

Worst case I'll have to put together a custom tune.

If the boost curve is the same I'm not sure what would need to change in the tune? I would log a lot and make sure everything is ok but at the least it would be a very good start for a custom tune.

If everything is the same minus bearings/seals/oil feed then I don't see why you would need a new tune.

Pretty sure the compressor is the same minus the bits required for oil feed.
