I fail to see how those two things are related. I've always kept my cars essentially stock, but have always done my own maintenance. Maybe that's just my generation, but I grew up with simpler cars and never saw the value in having anyone else do simple maintenance.

As for my FR-S, I will probably change the head unit out once Android Auto comes out, but that's all I'll probably ever do.

Nope. Blacked out tail lights look way too good on an Asphalt and a HRI Tune plus a JDL EL header transforms the car. I think I'll stop after tires and rims though...

I remember when I told myself when I got the car that the wheel gap won't bother me and I won't need a drop. Now every time I walk back to my car I can't help but cringe to see stock height with stock wheels. Spring can't come soon enough.

You would never know it by reading this forum but most FR-S and BRZ will never be modded by their original owners.

Once the kids can buy them cheap as used cars then all bets are off.

It surprises me that Toyota worked so hard on getting a low center of gravity, only to ship the cars out with a noticeable wheel gap. TRD springs fixed the issue for me.

I only plan to make cosmetic changes; headlights/tail lights, wheels (could be considered performance I guess), and maybe vinyl if I get bored.

I've modded my car in the past, but I want to take my time with the FRS because in my Subaru i did some mods that i did not like and sometimes i enjoyed the car more when it was closer to stock. This will be the only car I bought brand new, and I really want to enjoy the car how it came from the factory before I start changing things. I also want to savor each mod to see how it directly effects the rest of the car.

I probably wont do any mods until after I pay off the car.

The only thing i have done so far is tinted the windows and i plan to get the perrin inlet tube and an apexi filter but i don't really consider this much of a mod haha

I have heard that non-modded cars are more highly sought after on the used car market. Definitely want to change trans fluid to Motul or other high quality product. Curious if it will smooth out the 1st-2nd "crunch".
Do it, it should smooth it out perfectly. I only use eneos sustina and it smooth it out.

Back on topic,I only changed exhaust & put on cusco gas paddle + AFE dropin filter so far & loved them all. Cusco paddle made things a lot smoother and dropin filter got rid of the stupid idle dip. As for exhaust.... it sound better but I think I lost the highend or something...

Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me?
I fell in love with the vision of this car- Tada San did not envision the USDM 86 platform as what it is. It's evidenced by the TRD Griffon- although close to stock, a few major adjustments transform the car from good looking and great performing to beautiful and a work of art.

If this is your first RWD manual sport coupe, then I can see where you're coming from. It's pretty great set up from the factory.

But there's some specific things that, once adjusted, the majority will agree enhances the car. Most of these things are easily reversible. I'm alluding to the clutch pedal adjustment; headers plus tune (not so "reversible" when it comes to in-depth warranty work); HIDs (if not equipped); clear markers; subtle drop springs....

Most these things are very reversible but majorly transform the driving experience. I drive 100 miles a day in this thing. I require my car to speak to me, so I did a bit of work on the clutch and drivetrain, including diff+transmission+rear shifter stay mounts; quick shifter; clutch pedal adjustment; HIDs for safety and 'the look'; mudflaps to protect paint. All not stock, but aren't riced out and on "cheap Chinese websites" like you pointed out later on in the thread. Not all modders are ricers, not all ricers are modders.. you get the point

We gotta pay to play. Like NASIOC famously says,

"High performing, safe, cheap. Pick two."

I will stay stock till my 7year/100k warranty expires. Then yank out the boxer in favor of an LSX, hopefully an LS3.
