10 miles isn't an issue, but request a few things. You should have the ability as a First 86 winner to request that the PDI is done by a more experienced tech instead of a lube-tech. I'd also ask to ride along with the technician on the PDI.

That isn't being unreasonable and a technician will do everything properly on the PDI so they don't need to wrench on a brand new car. Everything extra (or uncommon) always costs someone money, and the dealer will try their best to not screw up such an important vehicle for a brand.

Calm down this is done by PDI professionals at the dealer, not just by anybody. If people that buy 80,000 thousand dollar Land Cruisers dont see an issue with this and this trust the dealership with their high dollar cars I dont see why you need to freak out. The PDI guys that I've known are older guys and take their jobs very seriously.

Quit scaring him man. 10 miles is perfectly normal. One of the guys explained the PDI process to us very well earlier. They have to check for things like vibrations that you can only check when the car is at speed on a highway. Plus they have to top it off with gas. And in some Toyota regions half a thank of gas IS REQUIRED from the window sticker, at least in his region (gulf states, since he is in Austin) To the OP, dont worry.

Well All PDI's are done by the techs. I have seen this all the time at the dealership I work at.

I have been in some new cars moving them from the wash to detail so they can finish up, only if they cannot move it because the wash is super busy. So I put maybe a .25 mile on it because it maybe at 0.9 and the distance happen to make it 1.0 or whatever.

3 and 4 miles on my last two cars.

10-15 is too much for my liking.

there has been some talk about dealers, but what about the staff working at the docks? i'm not sure if this applies to docks in the U.S. but here in Canada (at the west coast), there have been many reports of vehicle abuse when ships (roll on roll off) arrive and the staff drive the vehicles off. many cars have had busted bodykits (might actually be inevitable depending on how they're unloaded), some have had shift knobs stolen, stereos stolen, staff thrashing the cars from cold in a rush to unload the ship, staff have been reported to do donuts at the docks, etc. i will be picking up a car in less than 2 weeks (a celica) and this has me worried.

this can be true, but is not ALWAYS true, but yeah from my personal experiences (because I have driven STi's from boat dock to dealer I'm not gonna lie, people have wailed on your car!) and even though it says about ~ < 10 miles, you'd be surprised the shit people pulled on your car before delivery.

Just be happy we live in an age where precision rules, and it doesn't really matter, because lets face it, the abuse they try to grab-ass can probably withstand it, and the test of time, so just relax.

For me personally, I'm more worried about people drilling holes in my front fascia, and heating dorky dealership letters on the rear end of MY car, I hate that.....

as for stolen OEM shit, I doubt that, that is a NO NO... but you are in "Canada" lol

That is actually a deal breaker for me, and if you wanna beat on my shit out of the cargo docks from the ship be my guest.

PDI = Pre-Delivery Inspection.

It's a requirement by most auto manufacturers for any vehicle (car or motorcycle) to have received a thorough check of the vehicle including a test-drive.

I used to do those inspections for a BMW dealer and would gun the hell out of every single car i had to drive, literally i would not even let the cars warm up, and this was a strict controlled bmw dealer imagine what the inspections guys at scion dealers do..............

This thread makes me laugh. You're taking delivery of a $25K Scion, not a $375k Lexus LFA. Just calm down. You should research how these cars are driven on and off the boat. That little distance puts a lot more wear on the car than the 10 mile dealer inspection. Just don't piss the dealer off any further, or they'll drive the car hard on purpose....at least that's what I would do.

Are you seriously complaining about a 10k drive? LOL

You do realize your car comes backed up with a warranty if they drove it hard (which they wont).

what difference does the price of the car make?

a product that has been purchased/reserved in advance of delivery shouldn't be used for joyrides by the dealership staff, or for any reason beyond what is necessary to comply with laws/rules. It's absurd that we have to make "special requests" for a dealership to act with common sense and pay attention to their staff.

and if the car is abused at the dock, its out of my control, but what happens locally can be controlled...that's the difference

After further interaction with my dealer I'm no longer worry about joyride let's get that out of the way.

Now I WAS worried because when I heard that it was my second time talking to them, I didn't want to give him the benefit of the doubt because 1) I don't know him and have had bad experience w car dealer (who doesnt?) 2) I have seen car with less than 5 miles delivered 3) Scion has made this car more special to me than the LFA from the first86 treatment.

Honestly with no intention of attacking you personally, only the thing that you said, I was afraid of pp like you, unprofessional and base ethical decision on the price of thing. I'm a structural engineer, I take a 50k home design as seriously as an airport and I'd try to prove that to the client rather than making them at my mercy because of the magnitude of their project.

/end rant. Back to waiting for my dealer to call and pick out license plate
