Yes the last 10 years Toyota has had boring cars. W20 was the last good MR2 which ended in 1999. The Supra was great but ended in 2002. The last good Celica was the GT-Four which we didn't get and ended in 1999. So yeah the last 10 years have been boring for Toyota. Pardon the 15 yrs. |

The Spyder (MR-S) is much more fun than the SW20 (mk2). Slower stock, sure, but the go-kart feel is there. Power is easier to fix than, balance and feel. I put a 2GRFE 3.5L v6 in my 2001 Spyder, and it puts down 271 rwhp (~310 at the crank) with a table top torque curve. The car is nuts and still handles excellent.

I did not know where else to post it but, whats with all the bickering back and forth between Scion and Subaru enthusiasts??? Its like the Honda vs VW people with the exception of you all (hopefully myself included) will be driving the same car... sure little cosmetic things are different blah blah blah but the guts and everything that counts are THE SAME.
What is the average age of someone on this site? Late teens early twenties? Personaly I thought I was for sure without question buying the FRS than when pricing was released it put me on the fence... I grew up building and racing and driving Hondas, Ive owned a few other makes including a toyota and I wave worked on many makes and models so out of the two there is ZERO brand loyalty... I wanted the lightest version so the Scion was the one I was going with, now Im thinking get the added features on the subura and take away a few things I dont need to even out the weight advantage... If someone like the bumpers, headlights, interior, etc on one or the other great! Lots of people will probably be customizing their car in many different ways anyway so a lot of both makes will look vastly different than the OE versions. Buy the version you want and be happy with it... why talk ish on the next guy with the same car but a different badge... LOL it makes no sense. I was looking forward to getting back into a car that had a good following, but after reading so many posts on this and other FRS/BRZ sites looks like some of the Subaru people will be looking down on the FRS owners and FRS owners will be saying the BRZ owners got a watered down version of the car.... So STUPID... Sorry for the rant but I felt the need to vent my frustrations... Im done now...

![]() The FR-S makes me very happy because I grew up loving Toyotas. It just so happens that Toyota releases a car I've always been looking for; cheap, simple, not a lot of the new technology, plain, not too fast, small, etc. It's just a giant coincidence Toyota/Subaru releases such a car the time in the market for a new car. My dad has been an employee for 17 years so there's no questioning brand loyalty. But I know there will be people who are happy with the BRZ, but just because I'm a Toyota fanboy doesn't give me a right to bash on them. What makes me happy is hearing or seeing someone else who is happy and as excited for owning either of the cars. |

Well, its not only on this forum. This happens in every car forum where people act like they are the one that designed and build the car that they own. The car they have is far superior than any other car and nobody can say anything bad about it since that would mean a personal attack.

Agreed. Toyota brand is for old lady. I used to like Honda so much but now they've been making the car to sell for stupid people. FRS is best for the $

Well back on topic, after pricing has been released I'm leaning towards the BRZ.
It all kinda boils down to the "haggle a bility " of the BRZ too. So ill be waiting a few months to see how pricing plays out. I like both cars for their own reasons, but the BRZ just seems more subdued and adult. I'd love a limited but again the premium especially at invoice (eventually) would be the best all around deal. |

I've been leaning towards the BRZ too, but all of these reviews of the FRS that were just released are saying that it is considerably faster and more fun to drive than the BRZ. Thoughts?

To be honest (and I've said this before) I love the styling of the FRS a lot more than the BRZ, but I also want a car that won't really show it's age. I think the Scion might have too much "flair." But after all of these reviews and how well put together the Scion is, I'm still really torn. |

Could wait and see what Scion does with the Release Series? Maybe it will be set up more like the 86limited. I have time to wait anyhow (since I don't have money for a down payment)

My Reasons for choosing the FR-S:
- Front bumper looks much better. - Turning signal is seperate rather than inside the actual headlight. - Toyota is the company who made the AE86 so I'm confused as to why Subaru are part of it in a way. - Nav system on BRZ sucks, and I can just simply use my phone's nav app. BeSpoke is better with HD radio. - Toyota post-purchase repairs and check-ups are better than Subaru. (ToyotaCare) - The FR-S has pure pricing and they don't slap a $5,000 markup just because they can. - Scion corporate throws release parties for the First 86. Subaru does not. - FR-S will have a bigger and better variety of accessories both OEM and JDM. That's just a few reasons off the top of my head.. |

Sorry, I got OEM and JDM mixed up. The turning signal on the BRZ is inside the actual headlight, where as the turning signal on the FR-S is slightly below the headlight and is seperate. Scion is Toyota, no if's and's or but's. They just made Scion as a branch to appeal to the younger generation (I'm 22 btw). BRZ does not offer BeSpoke, so don't see your point. Even without BeSpoke the BRZ's touchscreen does not match the FR-S. I don't know why you keep mentioning Toyota, then saying "no wait, SCION" once again, they are the same. Not saying that Subaru is below grade stuff, I'm just saying the experience as a whole will be better through Toyota. Almost all Subaru dealerships are slapping $5k premiums on the BRZ's BECAUSE they don't have the pure pricing program so they don't have that rule to abide by. And IF Subaru didn't mark up the car at a dealership the basic MT is $25,495 compared to the $24,930 for the basic MT FR-S, difference of $565. That $565 can go a long way. The release parties are just a plus in my books
I see you either have a BRZ or are planning on owning one in the future. Sorry but these are my opinions, sorry you don't agree haha! (There is a reason why most members on here are going FR-S
