Just rooted mine successfully. And have google contacts syncing correctly so that I can use a dialler and not rely on the horrible and flakey bluetooth syncing.
There was a google doc with links and how tos posted earlier. I'll update, post and link to that later.

So would it be as easy as just pulling the pin from the harness and swapping it with the correct one?

If that's indeed the problem, yes.

yeah you definitely shouldn't need to cut anything. like a few others i reused the steering wheel control pin to pin for my amp instead since we don't have swc. just grab pliers and push it out of there. it's scary, but not too bad. just find your pinouts so you can check all of your wires.

Otherwise, it needs a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot of some sort (either a dedicated mobile hotspot or a phone running in hotspot mode).
thanks!

For all those who have horrible bluetooth connections - I disabled GPS and it seems to have fixed the problem. Still early days but the couple of calls I've had since have been trouble free.

yep i just added the GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk to the /system/app directory, then it just work, i had rooted it first. the link to it was somewhere buried deep in this thread, if you can't find it then PM me and i can email it to you!

I just need to figure out how to remove the std launcher screen and all will be well with it.

Yeah it looks like the front right speakers are in the wrong spot..
Strange though that since the FR-S and BRZ wiring is the same, why did the harness that came with it not work?

Accidentally miswired at the factory, maybe? It happens sometimes.
