I'm pretty sure the plastic part is an integral part of the bumper so those concepts impossible. You could do something like they did with the FR-S though.

Integrated: yes
Impossible: no
Difficult and in-need of an aperture bezel and then new grille and then stealth the bumper beam: yes

The purpose of the piece is to cover the bumper beam and the associated impact absorbing foam in front of the beam. A grill would need to be filled in at the top (like the FRS) to hide those things.

Personally, I think the FRS looks like a catfish. The "mustache" isn't the best, but the overall shape of the BRZ bumper and headlights is way better looking (IMHO, of course)

I agree. I don't know where all you guys live, but if front license plates are required it's not going to be pretty anyway, and I'd rather mount it to that plastic piece than on the painted part of the bumper. Plus if you are getting a darker color like DGM it will blend in. I think the mustache is a little weird but considering the thoughts I just mentioned I can live with it. The FR-S bumper however, I don't know why but it always reminds me of the "impossibru" face...

Recent Toyta/Lexus design language has always reminded me of something but I couldn't put my finger on it. ^ That is it!!!!! LFA and new Lexus GS fronts especially. Look that guy even has the 6 sided grill!!!!!

No front license plate required here in PA, so the stache sticks out a bit more. I'm going DGM though so you are right about it blending more with that color. Hrmm...guess I'll have to see what becomes available and also how I feel about the mustache when it's in my garage.

After checking out the BRZ in person, I believe the black strip may be removable. The strip doesn't seemed directly connected to the bumper. The bottom part of the grille, however, did seem directly attached. The pic below posted by M-17 in another thread shows a removable cover on the left most side of the black strip. I didn't try popping it out. I wonder if it is covering a clip that can allow the black strip to be removed.....

What do you guys think?

If you look real close. You can see the blue paint mask line bleeding over onto the black. If it was removable why would they mask it during the paint process, and not just install AFTER paint if it was seperate..my 2 cents. Plus all the subarus ive owned, all appear to have seperate black bumper trim, but it always ends up being one large mold

That removable cover is for the tow hook. Picture of it can be seen in this thread:

I remember how much I used to hate the look. And it all changed the moment I saw it with a license plate. Now I'm rather attached to the look.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of mods people come up with though to pretty it up.

the the stache serve a purpose?

i like the rendering above, so just cutting it off with a dremel, may be an option.

I plan on getting one of the darker colors; that DGM looks nice.

However, I have this urge to get that cover painted white, to look like a huge smile with teeth showing.

Yes it does.

Behind it is a giant chunk of foam and then the actual metal bumper.

You have to find some way to hide that stuff if you cut off the stache.

The foam is the absorber and behind that is the front reinforcement, or the real bumper. The foam helps absorb the impact during accident, but also stops rattle. So if u cut it, save some just in case....a tuck here, a tuck there... Does wonders noise.

after accidents, some people don't replace the foam. But say someone backs up into the front, without the foam there is more chance of cracking the bumper cover.

Actually that's perfect for leaving the plate off, and doing a "quick install" for fixit tickets
