AVO Turboworld Base ROM updates
As part of our ongoing Research and Development, we will be updating our base Stage 1 and Stage 2 base maps for our new customers, and will also make them available to customers that have already received our base map for their turbocharger kits. Changes: 1. Startup ignition retard - the default value for startup is -15 degrees. This is instituted by the manufacturer for emission reasons only, and only affects that initial cold startup. It is also rather excessive and makes a car that has had it's cats removed sound like it has an exhaust leak at startup. We have reduced it to -5 degrees only to reduce that nasty startup noise. 2. Boost cut protection on Stage 2 maps. We will include a 10psi boost cut on the Stage 2 base map. This will only work with people running the 3-bar MAP sensor upgrade. 10psi gives an acceptable margin to compensate for high load boost situations, while protecting your engine from any boost spikes due to a blown wastegate hose or other possible issues. Customers running a Stage 1 kit with a MAP sensor upgrade, but still on a Stage 1 basemap, can contact us directly for an update as well. 3. Also included in these updates are the latest TSB updates from Subaru and Toyota/Scion, specifically in regard to Cam Sensor issues that was present on early revision cars. We know this fixes ecu related issues to exhaust cam error codes P0018 and P0019. This will not fix a mechanical, but will fix all ecu specific issues. Transient Ignition Retard is updated as well. This was done by Subaru and Toyota/Scion to correct a situation where it would cause the direct injection seals to fail. These updates will apply only to customers running our Base Maps, if you have gotten a custom tune, you will need to talk to your tuner about implementing any of these options. Custom tunes: If you are running a custom tune, we do highly recommend running an EGT sensor on the exhaust manifold if you have a high boost setup. We have been seeing total ignition timing with some of these setups at about 12-14 degrees, which is causing exhaust gas temperatures at the manifold to get as high as 1700 degrees Farenheit. Technical footnote: If you have a mechanical issue that is causing your car to stall out when coming to a stop [error codes P0016, P0017], it is likely because of your cam sprocket. This photo illustrates the issue - the little piece on the inside left that looks like it has a spring behind it is the cause. It is actually supposed to sit flush with the back, but it will pop out and cause a oil pressure loss, which causes the cam to not respond fully. If this has happened, the cam sprocket will need to be replaced unless you can get that piece to sit flush again. |

Here is two more shots:
This is how the back of the cam sprocket should look - the piece is fit flush with the inner surface. The entire sprocket/cam assembly. |

The 3rd point is referring to the codes for P0018 and 19 for the cam sensor, the loose sprocket is the cause of the engine stalling at a stop, or P0016 and 17 according to AVO.
Two different codes, or is one the cause of the other? It seems that the if the cam sensor goes AWOL then the cam sprocket will pop out from the bad timing.

Point 3 will solve as much as software allows, the cam sprocket would be the case that it can't fix. So the derivation would be that it isn't tune related?

why does everything come down to derivations with you lol this is the second time.
the cam sensor would chalk up some stalls at low misfiring, increasing camshaft play, possibly jarring loose the sprocket.

It would also happen on the factory tune then? As indicated by the TSB?

I have no idea if any of these are corrilated, it just sounds like a logical course of events.

We saw the issues on stock cars w/stock tune - those pictures are from a stock engine we took apart to find what was going on.

Has anybody bought the AVO 3" downpipe/overpipe/cat? I haven't seen anyone talk about it here but I'm thinking of getting it.
I imagine fitment should be perfect since it bolts directly to the turbo, but I'd like to know if anyone has experience with it. |
