Engine Transmission Rear diff Steer wheel Steering mechanism Braking systems All will bolt into sc/mkiv with minimal modification. LS400 ecus will work with SC400s (albeit with some errors). Dashes are almost the same between LS400/SC400. Other minor things electrical things. Look at it in a logical / business way. There is no way in hell Toyota, who spent close to $1 Billion on LS400 development, is about go developing an entirely new platform (GS/SC/MKIV). The LS400 got shortened for the GS, which further got shortened for the SC. The MKIV was the smallest of all of them. Dont know why people are so butthurt over sharing a platform?

the SC400 and LS400 maybe related but what does that have to do with the MK4 Supra? almost nothing from those two cars will work in the MK4. people are getting butt hurt because no one wants a MK5 to weight and drive like a LS. |

JZA80/SC are the same basis, and LS is different, end of story.

Also MKIV weighed well over 1500kg...hardly a light car. Dont expect a new rendition to be much lighter.

It may be different, but my point has always been that the SC is a heavily modified LS chassis. People are just butthurt because they think MKIV is some unique awesome thing. Wake up it uses an engine from an Aristo and a chassis from a Soarer.

MK4 weight about the same as the competition (Subaru SVX, 300ZX, R33, 3000GT/GTO). the current LS is 4,200-4,300lbs. it make much more sense to under FT1 with the much lighter Lexus RC at only 3,500lbs. Quote:
you have an interesting definition of platform and chassis. Last edited by gymratter; 04-23-2014 at 08:03 PM. |

Everyone has their own definition of what chassis is. I think we are now very offtopic.
The question was what the 86 chassis could be used for, and in my opinion itt wont be used on the FT-1. FT-1 will either be RC-F (as stated above) or LF-LC. I believe it may be the LF-LC. Lexus confirmed that the LF-LC will be made. Where the underpinnings for the LF-LC come from, I dont know, but an article suggested the existing LS platform may be modified for it. Another one suggest a brand new platform..no one will know till official facts and figures are announced anyway. I assume the LF-LC will end up being the new SC and it would not be illogical to assume that the FT-1 MAY be based of that (looking at the history of the two cars). All of this is speculation till more information is revealed by Toyota/Lexus. Also RC-F is 3700lb. Check ClubLexus

I was talking about the RC350 and not the RCF.
underpinning the LF-LC would make the price tag for FT1 to high. the LF-LC is not a new SC, its a new model. hint the new name "LC". the new "SC" could be the BMW/Toyota joint sports car. a BMW official has confirmed they are talking with Toyota about a midsize roadster (check Carscoops for interview). |

Here is what ClubLexus has to say on the matter.

The bottom picture you posted is what I would consider to be the unibody/body. The top picture would be platform/chassis (suspension, hubs, engine, etc.).
It seems both your Supraforums and ClubLexus posts were quick to bashing, but no one produced any actual proof to back their arguments up. Then again neither did I. I guess its just my opinion / speculation then. You could be right about the LF-LC being too expensive, but lets see what happens. BMW and Toyota are supposed to be doing an MR-2 sized car from my understanding..again speculation as there have been no other details revealed

Actually, it has been confirmed in a press release the BMW/Toyota car will be a midsize sports car. Just speculation, but I'm thinking maybe something like a Mercedes SL fighter. |
