Certification used to follow the vin, but as of 1/14/14 certification warranty on BMW stays with the car until the buyer resells or trades in. Only BMW will be able to resell a CPO BMW. It makes sense to me though. You really should have a tech who is held to a criteria be responsible for the vehicle inspections.

Yup, totally makes sense. Especially since BMW will replace parts if necessary. Not to mention every company does things differently. Even the verbiage is different which can be confusing.

How about Scion? I picked up my FR-S as CPO, but at the same time I'm paranoid enough that I looked it over very carefully for signs of a previous accident. Nothing there and the car was in great shape, so I would've gotten the car anyway, but the extra warranty is nice if they actually honor it. I'd avoid a car if it wasn't CPO if it's sitting on the Toyota/Scion lot since that says something as well.
