Volvo V60 Polestar
Thoughts?
http://jalopnik.com/is-this-the-futu...way-1472152903 Volvo wagon. Bright blue. 350 horsepower. Sub 5.0-second 0-60 mph time. What are the specs? Similar to the S60 Polestar, there's 80% stiffer springs with Ohlins high performance shock absorbers. Brakes are upgraded with ventilated front discs clamped onto by six-piston Brembo calipers. The transmission is the same six-speed automatic that's gone through a a little tweaking and connected to better (I hope) paddle shifters. No manual, sorry. The six-cylinder T6 engine gets a new twin-scroll turbo and intercooler, says Volvo, to produce 350 hp at 369 lb-ft of torque. All this runs through a Haldex four-wheel drive system and can scoot the car to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds on its way to an electronically-limited 155 mph. In a wagon.P

Well it will send power where ever it needs based on driving scenario within a few ms. This is a true system that is not biased FWD or RWD

I like it.
I can't complain, Volvo never made cars like these in the past and you know it.

Pretty bad ass if I was looking for a wagon to buy. Fortunately enough, I can deal with just two seats for now

Non-biased AWD is permanent 50/50 torque split front/rear. A lot of permanent AWD cars have bias to the rear, slightly (STI had up to 70% I think in some years). My question is: does Haldex drive all the wheels all the time, or does it send power to the rear when it detects slip? That's difference between the Haldex and quattro systems Audi uses: Haldex is poop, quattro is not. |

Haldex Generation III, IV, and V based all wheel drive systems are proactive. The electronics can pre-tension the clutch and activate all wheel drive before a wheel slip occurs This is what I meant by the system is always monitoring every millisecond and sending power where its needed but you are right they are defaults. Gen V Haldex, smaller unit, instant traction, torque to all four wheels with the 50/50 split and the FWD bias split goes up to 95/5. and Gen 4 The XWD system can transmit 100 percent of available torque to either the front or rear wheels. However, for those conditions to occur one end of the vehicle would have to lose all traction, like driving on ice for instance. During a standing start the rear wheels are put to use, without the need for any slip to occur. Then under straight-line cruising conditions, to conserve fuel and driveline wear, the torque split to the rear wheels is reduced to a level between 5 and 10 percent. Also up to 40 percent of torque can be transferred by the eLSD between the two rear wheels to the one with more grip. The system can adjust torque splits based on calculated conditions, such as those that indicate an aggressive lane change maneuver, to effectively reduce overstreer or understeer without any wheel slip occurring. In the event that some wheel slip does actually get to occur, the system can react more timely and efficiently than in the past.

Gen 5 still does torque vectoring when needed. So what you get FWD when your crusing on a highway for better gas mialge. As long as when you need power it gets sent to the proper wheels Ill take the milage.
Gen 4 Could and Has Sent Power to RWD and has better performance in general but was massively unreliable

Over priced wagon. I would pick a hatch back any day for a family sport car, such as STI Hatch or Mazda 3. Still cheaper
