Oh for a melodious engine...unfortunately to me its just noise

Its funny how I am now picking on this car for what for me is its biggest downside....sound!! I can live with the power and torque, I can live with the crappy tyres, I can even live with the cheap interior, but I am struggling with the sound this car generates.

I 1st plugged the sound tube as per another thread and it was great (kudos to OP)....for a while, but I am now thinking the noise generated by the car is even less satisfying than when I hadn't plugged the sound tube (the engine is quite hoarse and harsh when revved), so as of the weekend I have unplugged it again...not a fix mind you just something a little different, until I find a fix to my own personal niggle with this delightful car....if only I could find a way to make it sound like an old school Alfa V6

I am currently scouting this site for vids to inspire me to make some mods with the express purpose of improving the music for when the radio is turned OFF

You're really not going to be able to get it to sound like a V6. It is an H4, and that's really what it'll always sound like. I have the TRD intake which completely removed the sound tube, and to me, it does sound a little more refined and less hoarse than the other stock FR-S's I've been in. Also, a good exhaust system goes a long way. But again, there's not much you can do to make it sound not like a boxer 4. It is what it is.

Previous car.

You think you miss sound? You have no idea. lol. Being able to fire off gunshots and fireballs never got old.

Thankfully, I get to surround myself with 100+ R32's come April when we take to the dragon and surrounding roads in North Carolina and Tennessee.

I dunno, I think mine sounds pretty great when I'm getting deep into 2nd or 3rd and the car is just scooting.

Hey OP, do you have the thread for that complete sound removal? I have a feeling that when I get the car I will eventually eventually want the sound not directed to cabin altogether.

Easiest way is to take the plug, that is in the outlet behind the glovebox, and stuff it into the mouth of the sound tube that comes through the firewall.....

Have you considered exhaust and intake mods? They will definitely make the car sounds a lot better.

I think that plugging the sound tube where it comes in the firewall doesn't quite do the job. I suspect there would still be resonating sound being amplified by the firewall. I would try removing the tube entirely and plug it at the air box.
