What??? How did you do that? Are you sure you set the TW to the proper setting before tightening the bolts?

at low torque settings, the "click" is very, very soft/subtle.

12 lb/ft is VERY little force. It's less than "hand tight". Turn your torque wrench VERY gently. You will barely feel it, if at all.

I have owned a Craftsman 1/2" drive torque wrench for 3 or so years. It's always been accurate and never failed on me.

I'm not 100% sure which bolts you're talking about. Can you upload a pic please?

Posted this in your other thread, but here is another post that addresses your issue: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...hlight=snapped

As for torque wrench settings, I don't normally trust the settings that are at the extreme bottom and top settings. For those nuts that only require 12-17 ft-lbs of torque I use a in-lbs torque wrench so that I can set it in the middle of it's working torque range. That gives you a more solid click. I think I have at least 4 torque wrenches so that I can cover all ranges I'll ever need without having to go to their high/low settings.

There is also 3/4-drive in a 50 to 300 range, but unless you are working on diesel trucks, you wont have much use for it.

If you can only afford one, the 3/8 is the one to start with. I have always had good experience with Craftsmen and Snapon tools. Booth have a lifetime warranty. DO NO BUY TOOLS FROM Harbor Freight. They will piss you off and you'll end up buying one of the above brands anyway. Buy Once, Cry Once.

Digital vs non-digital, I prefer the non-digital. What ever model you get, only store it set to zero, otherwise it will loose its calibration over time.
so if we should start with the 3/8 torque wrench then what is the purpose of the other 2?

The idea is to select the torque wrench based on the application. Use the one in which the target torque is closest to the middle of the range of the wrench.

Strain measurement devices tend to be most accurate in the middle of their range so the same holds true for things like pressure gauges, bathroom scales, etc. It's just a basic rule of thumb.
