safest spacer thickness for auto-X? rpf1 17x9 +45

Hello everyone, so I just pulled the trigger the other day on a set of rpf1s someone on here was selling. I chose +45 > +35 Becuz I didn't want poke & I hate stances cars (all form, no function.) The only down side to the +45 I've found is that w the 245 tires they have on them, it'll rub the strut perch at stock & even w coilovers I've read of probs rubbing against the tie rods. So it brings me to the topic at hand, what spacer thickness is ok? Was the max limit that would be too much? How can I go about this? Even then I'd love to bring the wheels flush w the fender. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank u all

+35 fits without poke with a little bit of camber-which is good for autox anyways....

People run +35 on all corners with 245 width tires and no issues. Wouldn't really call that all form and no function.


3mm-5mm is the most I see people run on stock studs.

+35 is far from no function. 2.7 degrees front, 1.65 degrees rear with 255's. No rubbing and dead even with top of fender.



That being said, I would not run more that a 3-5mm spacer on stock studs.

255/40/17 on our red car which is competed nationally for autocross, also put down some serious lap times at a couple tracks and is 17x9 +35. Frankly thats the only way to go. No rubbing anywhere and fits in the fenders just fine. We even have a local client running this set up on swift springs and he loves it. Track days and autocross.

I believe I made a huge mistake now... Ugh.. I feel so stupid. I'm new to buying wheels so I shoulda known better & asked someone for some input

Did you get the +45 from us? If so we can work an exchange on them. Always feel free to email or call us. We have two cars in house we race on track and autocross so have a ton of knowledge on what works and what doesn't we're always willing to share with our clients.

What setup? 255/40 all around? or 245/40?

I'm currently running swift springs with stock struts. Ordered 255/35 all around for 18x9.5 +38. I try to read all possibilities that the setup would not rub.
The overall wheel diameter is really close to spring perch, 5mm away. Does tire's section width will be wider under load? Like how many %? 255 is still less than my overall wheel width which is 10.5 inch.

Do I need any spacers? Thanks. I'm just not sure about the tire's section width under load.

I'm going coils but currently out of budget.

are you staying stock suspension? i have rpf1's in 17x9 +45 with 245/40/17's too. i love them. i only rub on full lock with the tie rods. not a big deal at all. the only issue i have is with the rear. it doesnt sit flush and it looks ugly. the front sits perfect and looks great. ive been debating on getting 10mm spacers for the rear but i dont want to get into changing the studs so im gonna pass.

im now on coils too so there is no issue with the spring perch. on factory suspension, you will be really close to the spring perch up front but you wont rub. ive seen tons of photos of the +35 offset and trust me, there is poke up front and it looks awful. you made the right call IMO. if youre really that upset, just get a good set of 10mm spacers for the rear and replace the studs. its not that big of a deal and youll love the look of it.

check the wheel category threads. the guys at Togue Factory have spacers on their car and they track their car. it looks amazing too with the +45 and spacers. dont worry. youll be happy with them. i do recommend coils though.

I'm going to get a refund for them. I'll be ordering some +35's now then. Can I get that amount of camber on out of the stock equipment?

you really can't adjust camber with stock equipment. you're going to need rear LCA's and front crash bolts for some good amount of movement

It boggles my mind why people will run 9" wheels with 245's with 0* of camber up front. If you're going to go with that much grip you NEED to run at least -1.5* of camber, probably happier with -2*, up front.

With 2* of camber and +35 you'll have no poke at all.
