That picture was from last year. Still plan to keep my stock tires/wheels on until the temps get into the 30s in the mornings.

Hi, I plan to run a taller tire just like you. 205/60r16 or the like. Did you have any sort of rubbing issues? I will be using 2005 Subaru Forester 16" wheels.

I like the idea of a taller tire for extra clearance. Plus, a plan on lowering the car with springs so the extra height with the 205/60r16 raises the car back up a bit for winter.

Your thoughts?

Are you on stock suspension?

The tire shop currently has good deals on a set of 215/60r16 and I'm thinking of running.those. I'm just scared that they will be too tall and possibly rub the inner fender wells at full lock.

My BRZ is all stock except for Hella Supertones. :-)
215/60R16 will probably clear. I don't remember anything being too close to rubbing.

So what is the equivalent 16" tire size to keep the total wheel/tire circumference the same as stock? there won't be any issues going that route would there? More than likely I'll go with steelies.

I see a lot of good information in here, and I hate to be that guy, but I made it fine on stock tires last winter, only sliding in the driveway when it wasn't shoveled. I need to justify the expense of the winter tires, and I'm told this winter might be worse than last. We don't have too many days with snow on the road, ice is pretty rare. But I would like the peace of mind that comes from snow tires.

That being said, I see a few prices, but not many. Which ones are the cheapest, and decent for light winter situations? I'd mount them on the stock wheels. Steelies would be a waste because the stock wheels will be my winter wheels when I can afford aftermarket wheels.

Im on the hunt for winter tires to put onto my stock rims. Right now im stuck between the two choices... Either Bridgestone Blizzak or Goodyear Ultra Grip. The place that I am planning on buying my tires from say that they basically have the same stats, but im mainly paying for the name with the blizzak. Anyone have experience with the Ultra Grip? Ive been a lot of reviews with the blizzak's on this thread, but nothing with Ultra Grip

This setup got me through a week of very icy weather last year that I would have had zero chance of getting through with the stock tires. I have yet to take this setup through very thick snow however, and since the tires are taller than stock, it leaves no room for cables/chains.

I copied you, old wrx wheels with 206/60/16 is smart, tall and skinny is best for winter IME. Thanks for posting. I went with General Altimax arctic just because of a rebate.

I learned living in Wisconsin that the recommended smaller thinner wheels make a bigger difference than the snow tire brand. Have you considered a set of 16x6.5" wheels first ?
