Interstates around here have a 75mph speed limit, and some of the ones in Utah are up to 80 now. If you're only driving 75, you're going to be passed by most traffic (once you're out away from cities).

I sometimes get up to 80 mph, however in LA I can never sustain for more than a few seconds before you have to slow down for traffic.

When my wife got her first benz and she was driving on the freeway passing everybody, I asked her to slow down. She told me "See I'm going less than 50 mph." I had to point out that she was looking at the tachometer and the 50 she was looking at meant fifty hundred rpm (or 5000 rpm). She was actually going over 90 mph!!!

My tc ran about 4k at 90 but at that point and up it would eat gas like a v8

i used to have to drive from nyc to buffalo a lot so i would cruise at 100-105 with my trusty radar - right now im cruising around 85-90 in my frs since its still semi new to me

to add to the above... When I start to feel shakey (sleepy), I drive fast-er. It gets the rush going. Then after the rush, I'm like, "dammit, gotta stop now before I doze off."

depends on the music I'm listening too. Reggae I tend to chill. House music I tend to go into race car mode.

I log less issues and knock cruising at 85 mph than I do driving rural twisty roads, you could probably drive this car at 90 mph stopping only for gas and oil changes for a million miles. Its the lowest wear driving you can get.

Our highways are really dead, nearly 8 lanes, and they're linked on the border of each city so maybe that's why the speed over here is 88 miles being the maximum.

Sonic anxiety relief at cruising speeds

I got relief from the sense of imminent destruction at high revs - and at highway cruising speeds - by blocking that silly tube that brings induction noise into the passenger compartment. The sound it made was always incongruous to me; didn't sound like an engine running, sounded like a vacuum cleaner. I found it embarrassing, at least; sort of a toy car "feature".

I know this doesn't directly address the OPs question, but I find the car much more pleasant to drive with just the honest engine and exhaust noise. It might lower OP's anxiety level at his cruising speeds if the extra - and silly - sucking sound wasn't being piped in.

It should not be an issue. Subaru boxer engines are used, with reduction gears, in experimental aircraft all over the world. In that application they are run constantly at or near full RPM for thousands of hours.

I have personally flown with one in an RAF2000 gyrocopter and a Zenith 601HD fixed wing. I would not hesitate to do it again.

At the revs you are talking the engine is not even at a good fast walk never mind running hard, compared to these uses of them.

is there a reason is 88? why not round it to 90 or down to 85? first assumed it was the conversion from kmh, but thats 141... kinda curious

Have you exported these logs anywhere? Sounds like interesting data.
