Since several lug nuts had froze up, I bought a round of ARP wheel studs and some 949 racing lugnuts. Removal and installation of the studs on the front wheels was pretty easy. Simply used a hammer to tap them out and then used some washers/nuts and an impact wrench to set the new studs.

The rear wheels were a different story. There's not enough room behind the hub to install the longer studs I was using, so you actually have to remove the hub. The left rear actually removed pretty simply and only took marginally longer than the front. However the right rear ended up being a nightmare. The hub had rusted to the knuckle, and it took me over half a day of beating on it directly with a sledge hammer, a hardened steel chisel, and a bottle of PB blaster to finally get the thing out. A hub puller just couldn't hack it, and I started getting worried about damaging the cv axle and differential from the compression.
Once I finally got it out, I figured I had likely destroyed the inside of the hub I'd been smashing, so I ordered a new one. Meanwhile, I used a dremel to clean out the inside of the knuckle, applied some anti-seize to the new surface, replaced the studs when the new hub arrived, and reinstalled it. That one wheel turned what should've been a pretty uneventful job into an uber pain. |

I'm so glad my car came with studs already by the sound of it.
I think I'll be back out at Hallett on the 21st of September, you going? |

In an attempt to remedy my brake issues, I rebled the fluid, and replaced the DBA XP650 pads with Ferodo DS2500s (since I knew those worked well in the past). The front DBA pads were over half used up from a few months of DD and one track day (which was surprising to me too), whereas the Ferodos I had previously run lasted a years worth.
At the next Hallett track day, the brakes worked much better after bed-in and restored the confidence I was looking for. Managed a new best time going CCW of 1:38.7. |

Hope to see you out on the 21st, but if you figure out early enough what day works best, I don't mind switching to the 20th.
What group are they putting you in? |

I should have a better idea in a week or so, but I'd say 90% chance I'll have to go on Friday. They typically put me in the A group (when there's A and B groups).

I got this idea from a friend at the track, and it looks like a number of people have done this... Basically a poor man's cheap front brake cooling system courtesy of Porsche.
They are Porsche GT3 Brake Duct Spoilers and were only $30 for a pair. I think they just clip on the front of the control arms of the Porsche (require a little bit of finaggling to fit on the FRS) but seem to work well enough. (Photo from https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...GT3_ExteriorWW) |

It required some modification of the ducts via snipping off some edges and corners to make fit, plus some duct tape to block off holes, then a few zipties and presto. I also cut away some of the inside rotor shielding to allow more of the airflow to the rotor.

I've been considering these as well. Couldn't make it to Hallett on Friday, but managed to get out there Saturday. I got a 1:34.84, and I think there's a 1:33 or better in the car.
Did you end up getting out there Friday? |
