Burning oil? N/A
Anyone else having issues with burning oil? I know I'm boosted now but I was burning oil before I went boosted. I'll probably have to get it fixed out of warranty LOL. Of course I expected this, but if it can be done under warranty and has nothing to do with the turbo that would be nice.

How much are we talking? All OEM turbo-Subarus eat oil. 1qt between oil changes is normal. What's your consumption?

After 1000 mile break in I drove it pretty hard. I'm talking like 2 quarts per month here.

Boxer engines will blow oil out the PCV vents in the heads during hard cornering because the heads are horizontal. If you're doing regular track days or AutoXes, you might want to get a catch can if you don't have one already. You'll likely see your consumption go down.

if you didn't bed the low-tension rings in correctly very early, it will burn oil. Just like all other subaru's. If you break them in with a lot of cylinder pressure and engine braking to force the rings out to the bore, they use very little oil. You have a very small timeframe to bed the rings properly, miss it and you'll have an oil burner like a lot of the EZ's out there.

Just curious (serious question)...
If you knew it was burning this much oil before you turbocharged it, why didn't you get it fixed/looked at while you had the warranty? |

dealer would most likely tell you to keep driving it any the oil consumption will improve :p
There's been FB20's sent in to reputable subaru engine specialists over here for warranty reports to be written investigating their high oil usage, and Aus doesn't have THAT many F-engines on the road yet. |
