Coilover Options

Hey guys so I can't really find what I'm looking for. Pretty much I am considering getting coilovers but can't decide what I want and can't find post for which coilovers are good or bad.

I'm looking for something that's going to be used for daily driving and might track it once in a while. Looking for something that I can get a nice drop with but also something that isn't going to break my back because of how stiff it is.

If I can get some input on this and people can suggest and tell me what is good and what isn't so I can consider what I really want to get. Thanks in advance!

how much money are you looking to spend? how much of a "nice drop" are we talking about?
I'd say ST, KW V1 and RCE T0 RSR Sport-i are good places to start, if you're looking for more adjustment check out KW V3, RCE T2

Well I don't want to spend more then $2000 for coilovers. Nice drop meaning not slammed but not stock ride height wheel gap. Something where the gap will be flush.

Bilstein B14's are nice, made by Bilstein, quality company. There is a reason why Bilsteins come standard on Porsches! Lowest price I've found was just shy of $1000, and progressive springs.

KW V1 is a nice option for those who don't want to deal with ajustability, they are valved very specifically to the 86 platform. Slightly more, I've found between 1400-1500.

ST will be the cheapest option of this list, but they are made by KW for ST specs, the only difference between the KW V1 and ST coils, is the stainless steel durability finish.

RCE T0 is a great all rounder and heavy hitter. A little firmer spring rate wise than the KW V1, but will surprise you more around the track (in a good way), I've found them around the upper range of your budget, at 16-1700

Then you have the budget toppers KW V3 and RCE T2.

Think of the KW V3 as a more adjustable V1 and just under $2 large for a good deal.

The RCE T2 is more track oriented then the T0 or V1/V3. Since RCE coilovers are made by KW to RCE specs, RCE wanted to classify their T2 as the KW clubsport equivalent (racing coilovers). The spring rates start at 400/400 lb/in, and are the most expensive of the group, usually between 2-2200.

I suggest you read a lot of the past posts in this subforum.

Stiff =/= harsh, and decreased harshness generally comes with a higher budget.

What are you looking to spend on EVERYTHING? (Coilovers + top hats + arms + any other supporting mods)

Thanks this helps a lot with deciding on which route to go.

I know with decreased harshness comes with a higher budget and my budget for coilovers are $2000 and that's what I'm trying to decide on what to get. I need to get arms and other things to get coilovers done? I mean Iv'e been through this before I used to a BMW I modded with coilovers and stuff. But I'm new with the FR-S since I've only had mine for 3 days now

You don't need anything extra to run coilovers on our twins.

If you lower the car, the rear cambers out a bit, if you want to stand the rear wheels back up you'll need adjustable LCA's.

Mine is lowered 1.5-2'' and has about -2.3 camber in the rear.

With camber bolts in front, you can get to -2 degrees, but if you want more you'll need camber plates.

Necessary? Depends on your particular setup. What you *can* do is set your rear camber by height, and then match the fronts. Don't go too low, particularly with softer sprung setups, or you may bottom out and damage your rear dampers. We have very little travel in the rears.

Any comment or idea on "Fortune Auto"?
Thanks.

Fortune auto... They have a better build quality than BC and Megan racing, that's for sure. I'm not too terribly familiar with their products, but there was a thread on this board concerning the sheeting off of one of the members coilover. The whole top of the damper just snapped off. I'm sure that's not normal, but it may give an unfortunate connotation to Fortune Auto coils.
