The rotory

I have deemed it my life goal to eventually own and build myself a 4 rotor FD RX-7. Anyone have experience with rotors? Anyone actually build a 4 rotor? I did a quick google search on a 4 rotor cost and it's quite pricy... But dat idle tho

Any advice from the older generations of car enthusiasts?

A shit ton! I remember reading about it a few years back. The eccentric shaft was custom made and by itself had a hefty price tag.. Like a few thousand $$. Not sure about specifics but fuck that. So much money to end up with a car that probably gets like 7mpg and costs a small fortune to maintain properly.

I'd rather try and source a 3 rotor from Japan. I know it came in a Mazda from the factory. Cosmis or something?

I've unfortunately never driven a rotary, I've heard they're brilliant (when working well).

I've also heard repeatedly that they're a serious labor of love, constantly requiring attention. If you're into doing frequent engine work, it might be for you.

Mazda Cosmo, here's a link for pictures and such on an old auction.

I really want to get back into a rotary someday, but I'm just wanting to go classic, bridge-ported 12A or 13B with a big carb on top and a RacingBeat header and exhaust.

The housings can be stacked. Those are easy.

It's the crank that will cost you a fortune.

dat idle? You mean the sound of an engine chewing itself apart surely but (not always) slowly? :P

4 rotor engines only start at 32k and go up to 39k.

*wankel

I'm a fan, but like malave7567 I'd like to either go with NA 12A or 13B with mild builds, reliability and revs for days or the hypothetical never-gonna-happen future RX-? Decent driver RX-7's from the 80's can be had for <$5k if I had the garage space I'd be shopping now, I'm seriously afraid that by the time I have the resources for a project car (~1 year from now if I'm lucky) they'll be too expensive...

Tons of info available whether you're dying for some doritos under the hood or want to prove that they're the spawn of hitler and satan inferior to every other method of combustible propulsion. (I'm saying they're divisive)

My go to so far has been rx7club, and surprisingly Wikipedia has rather detailed information on the different generations and significant changes between years.
