Drift-Office : Borla UEL Header... TUNED.

Hey all, thought I'd share our findings with our recent calibration of a customer's setup with a production Borla UEL header on his FRS.

First, a quick re-hash : typical 6MT baseline @ 165-ish, stock wheels, stock intake, ARK Exhaust running 92 Octane. I won't bore you with videos on this one since there's plenty of BRZ / FRS Borla UEL videos on YouTube, so here's the nitty-gritty...

Coming in from having just installed the header with a 100% STOCK ECU setup, here's the baseline in 3rd and 4th :

Neato ~ it's pretty apparent that some of that dip has gone away, though it's still there... There's an increase of about 10WHP in PEAK numbers in 4th gear, not as much in 3rd... and cutting to the chase, when we were done with our calibration, these were the final results :

3rd Gear, before and after

4th Gear, before and after

I was hoping to cross the 180WHP mark as with most of our Stage 1 NA tunes, but in this case, the engine just didn't respond to any adjustments beyond that point. Granted that all this doesn't seem like much but it isn't until you overlay a typical baseline from another 6MT is when you see what this header does and where it really shines.

So based off that last chart, I think all of you who's keen in getting rid of that torque dip, your prayers are finally answered. At the lowest point of the dip, you're looking at an additional 15#s of torque in that void, filling it up very nicely. In this case, you can expect an increase of 10 - 15 in terms of both power and torque thru the entire range.

So the bottom line in a nutshell : All UEL headers are not created equal (Get it?!) and requires tuning to optimize and realize their gains! With limitations in octane based on locality, you might not get the phenomenal results you otherwise would with E85 and such but you can expect to "feel" a much more of a planted sensation and linear performance with a proven setup like Borla's offering.

I've got a Rev Works UEL header to tune in the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned for more when it develops!

Regards!

Holy Grail!

I assume the car is now octane limited. If we can get 93 octane, non ethanol, non oxygenated, non swill fuel, we may see a flat torque curve, right?

Bob, do you think there is any chance 140lb-ft can be extended to 7400rpm? What do you think the bottleneck is beyond 6500rpm?

And also, how loud is this combination?

So it looks like headers have answered our torque dip prayers. Nice! Can't wait to see more tunes of the RevWorks, JDL UEL, and side by side with the EL's (FA20club, P&L, Nameless when released) Thanks for sharing.

My Revworks needs you!!! Here is my E85 tune after slapping the RevWorks UEL header on. Dip is still slightly there, but I hope this can be flattened with some work

Here it is over my baseline:

You won't be tuning many cars in the punitentiary.
Ah well, you can tune a Toyota, but you still can't tuna fish.
