Did you have to make use of the warranty?

Hey, I am doubting between carrying out the 2nd official maintenance service, or making it myself and lose the last year of warranty (I have only 3 years)

The thing is, the car has 2 years and "only" 7k miles. In the next year I will be reaching maximum 12k miles, if any. I wonder what are the chances that something important (engine) fails during this year.

I prefer to do it myself because I choose my fluids and I do it better actually. Also I change oil/brake fluid more often than the required. And itīs way cheaper of course. And I lost almost an entire day, as the Subaru thing is quite far from my home

So I through this question up, then I can have a better idea about the reliability of the engine and make a decision

there's no better way to put it. if you manage to break a motor in 20k miles, you're doing something impressively stupid.

you've got nothing to worry about.

Not sure if I read your comment right but I can't imagine a dealer giving you a an issue on warranty because you did maintenance yourself. Just keep receipts and you should be fine.

On my 2017, I did not use the warranty for anything engine related. The car was previously leased and had 26k when I got it and has 33k now.

What the warranty was used for was a new spoiler for rattling issues, a new battery when the old one died in mid-2019, and the passenger side seat cover was re-done because of wrinkling (and has wrinkled again).

Usually speaking and especially with this car, if you engine blows within 3 years or <30k miles, you're doing something wrong. Maybe the car is being extensively tracked, no oil cooler, only using Subaru oil. That could possibly cause an issue... and even then, unlikely in the first 3 years.

I did have a buddy blow the engine in his 2013 WRX at 5k miles. That was covered under warranty and was likely a defect. However, the engine blew 2 times after that also because he drives like a madman and autocrosses it extensively (actually won nationals in 2019 in it). I think it failed around 30-40k and then again at 70k. Once from bad fuel and racing it, then again after than autocross event and going WOT to pass someone on the highway on the way home. Different car (EJ25 and turbo) and really beating on it.

Warranty is not voided by doing your own maintenance as long as you can prove it was done. Grab the receipts and take a picture of them beside to odometer to show you were within the period.

Well, not sure about that on my country :/
Maybe I would have to fight for it, in case it happens. But thank you for the advice, I will definitely take it, as I am quite convince now to do it myself

Ya I didn't really catch that you were not in North America so the rules could be very different.

Used the warranty on my '17 due to tight valve shims (it had less than 20,000km on at the time). I could have done it myself but it saved me a weekend, and the only thing it cost me was driving a Corolla with a CVT for a month.

So in the end I'm not sure if it was worth it
