BRZ OEM Filter Part # different now?

Anyone have the latest word if the 130 Filter changed to the 15A filter. Got home and looked at the filter noticing a vastly different filter in size and color. I have been searching for the past 4 hours on this subject and only found 2 post saying their service departments said the 15A filter is the replacement for the 130 filters and are BRZ/FRS Specific.

Just wanting to find some truth to this. Much thanks to the replies.

Yea the updated filter part number is changed to "A" and it got bigger in size. I just got my oil changed yesterday. Color is still black though.

I can still get the 130 filter at my local Subi dealer. I picked up a case not too long ago just in case. Good filters.

I think your dealer is pulling a fast one, there is no TSB calling for a filter switch.

The right filter is the 15208AA130.

I have a blue oil filter installed from a dealership in Albuquerque, NM while I was travelling. Part# 15208AA15A , I want to know also if this ok, the correct filter or if I'm risking damage using this.

*edit* my engine is really dirty from crossing the desert

You're not risking damage, but the 130 and 160 will be better.

There's another thread on this already somewhere.. the blue filter is apparently a cost-cutting move.. it's just cheaper overall. BLACK is the way to go when it comes to OEM filters.

Just got word back from SOA. They called the dealer again and they are getting the 130 filters in. If anyone has any problems with their dealers not stocking the 130 filters do not hesitate to contact SOA and see if there can be a resolution. Needless to say, this dealership is probably going to hate me but I am okay with it. They do a good job and I did this for more than just me, I did it for the other BRZ owners in my area so they can get the correct filters that this car is meant to have.

Long term reliability.

Here's the truth of the matter when it comes to oil and filters: For 95% of car owners, 5w30 conventional and cheap-o filters will be just fine for their car as long as they change their oil every 3000-4500 miles.

When we discuss oil brands and filter choice, we're talking about that intangible 5%. I say "intangible", because noone has done a true long-term test of every brand. It's just not feasible. The differences in wear may be negligeable, but depending on useage, it may not be. So the thinking is that if you use the best you're covered for the worst.

The guy who buys whatever's on sale at the local auto parts store may get just as long a life out of their engine as the guy who only uses Amsoil and OEM filters. The issue is that there's no way to be sure.

Could you see a difference between the blue and black filters? Probably not. Does it make you more comfortable to know that you have the better black filter on the engine rather than the blue? Possibly so.

Personally, I run what I feel is the best oil and the best filters because I want to be as sure as possible that I'll get the best protection for my engine.
