215 vs 225vs 245

Wondering what characteristics each will have on a 17x8.25

215/45

225/45

245/40

Is it that noticeable?! Ive been told buy this buy that. Like will my mpg drop 3 points if i run a 245. Will it feeel like i have zero grip with 215.

Whatre the pluses n minuses of each? Was goikg to go get 245s put on at this morning. Now im doubting myself again!!!! Erg

To my knowledge. The only REAL difference. Is that the 245s are an inch wider. Take a little longer to heat up. Well my rims are an inch and a quarter wider than stock. So why not make the tire an inch wider too

Yes. Good idea. Then get 225. After that go up to 245/40. I did, thats why I know I like 245/40 MPSS.

215/45 isn't even an option for 8.25 rim unless you want to stance it out. The stock wheel is 17x7 and 215/45.

225/45 for stock like nimble-ness and rolling resistance. Also cheaper.
245/40 for grip. Also more rim protection. Will lose some feel.

If you are going to use it year round and experience snow, ie snow/all seasons 225/45.
If you have a snow set and drive aggressive and need lateral grip, ie summer 245/40.

Mpg hit is maybe 1mpg, due to rolling resistance and extra weight(1-2lbs) of the tire.

225/45 with the right tire is an upgrade with nearly zero compromise.
245/40 is a larger upgrade with slightly more compromise.

Honestly compound is more important than the size. I'd take 225 mpss over some 245 in an average tire.

Both on the same set of wheels?
I'd tell you to get 225/45 as3's for the stock wheels and save on mounting back and forth all the time. I've read somewhere the as3's are better than the stock tires in the wet and dry. MPSS is a great tire and you will be amazed by what a simple upgrade can do. There is a reason why so many luxury brands run them.

What's wrong with staying with 215 and simply going to a stickier compound? I appreciate it might also be an ascetics thing though with the desire to fill out the guards more.

There is your answer buddy.

225/45/17 would be the way too go on a 17x8.25 wheel.

They feel great though. Driving in the rain i had amazing traction compared to stock. Could launch without violently spinning
