Buffing up the clutch operation?
I have been going through a bit of clutch hell and am close to resolving (hopefully) with a Southbend combo of their Stage 3 clutch surface with their Stage 2 flywheel (The stage 2 flywheel is a little heavier and should result in better DD manners - still holds the full 450 rated ft lbs)
Anyway - I am also replacing the transmission fluid with Pentosin MTF2 SAE GL-4 75W-80 and adding some braided clutch line. What I am wondering - and looking for some help on - is there anything else I can do to make the clutch feel a bit less "mushy"? I am wondering if there are any braces/brackets that can make the pedal feel more solid? It has a slight lateral motion to it - I am talking really slight but I notice it. Especially when using the clutch pedal on the edges. Anything else that folks have done to buff up their clutch outside of the actual clutch assembly itself? Thanks in advance for any advice - I would like to do all this stuff in one go and not revisit the clutch for many miles I am sick of clutches for the moment |

Removing the extra clutch pedal spring is supposed to improve the feel of the clutch.
There's a few threads here on removing the spring, it takes just a few minutes. Pedal will be slightly harder to push in but feels more "normal". |

Beware though, removing the clutch helper spring will increase that lateral motion the OP dislikes. Also, the first few centimeters as you push on the clutch pedal will feel quite flimsy.
These things bothered me in the beginning after I removed the spring, but I am now used to it. Without the spring, I can tell the engagement point better and can shift more precisely than before. So in all, I am not going to put that spring back on. |
