Do you even Cool Shirt Bro?!

This is a product that's very common in race cars and if you're racing in the heat of mid summer then it's absolutely needed. On race days from July to Sept I find using the cool shirt allows me to be as fast at the end of the race as I am at the beginning. I haven't seen this talked about yet so I thought I'd bring it up.

My favorite addition to my race car was the Cool Shirt. It's essentially an ice chest that bolts into your car with a switched pump. You fill it with ice/water and then wear a shirt with water lines sewn into it that connects to the cooler. Flip a switch and you have ice cold water pumping through the front and back of your shirt.

For you hard core track junkies who plan on playing in the heat of the summer sun you may want to consider one but keep in mind, you're going to be bolting it through the floor the car unless you get one of their portable setups.

Here's the main website: http://www.coolshirt.com/

Here's the racing application setup: http://www.coolshirt.com/coolshirt-racing.html

In the race car, yep. BRZ, not so much

Build your own, way cheaper.

Yup, in the 944 S2 race car the cool suit is the best thing ever when sitting on a hot grid. Also helps tremendously with fatigue when getting your guts tossed around in a fiberglass seat and 5pt harnesses while working a manual steering rack that's turning Hoosiers.

BRZ has AC and tinted windows. Hot grids are a non-issue. It's also way more forgiving than a full blown race car (assuming you haven't gone that route with yours) so your body doesn't get wrecked quite as bad. Just drink lots of water/gatorade.

If you did want to run a cool suit in a BRZ it wouldn't need to have the lines run under the car. Strap the cooler down in the trunk (maybe use a strap latch that bolts into where the spare tire is), run the lines between the crack in the back seats and up to driver's left for quick connect/disconnect the lines.

We raced offroad in the summer without this. It's nice, but not needed if you're in reasonable health. Normally we just strap a camelback to the back of the seat and run the line with the Comm line. Grab it when you need it. And we were in 3 layers of firesuits, with all associated gear.

Need? Of course not. I still won't race without it though.

Nope in my SpecE30, and I wouldn't even think of it in the BRZ. Too much weight and one more thing to worry about disconnecting when exiting the car in an emergency.

They are breakaway connectors, I don't even disconnect them half the time during driver changes. I'm not sure I'd use a system in a 15-20 sprint race, but a 2 hour stint in endurance.. yes Depends on the weather of course.

They are quick disconnect connections that will come apart with a simple tug. I've "accidentally" tested that feature and glad they didn't break when I did. There's no need to worry about egress.

This setup doesn't make sense for a street car but I knew there were some serious track junkies who may have removed their A/C or may have race cars.

These are used by most professional race teams/drivers; Grand Am, Continential, Aussie V8's etc etc. However some of these teams have a cool shirt setup (north of $1500) that uses refrigerant to cool the shirt instead of ice water.

I picked up just the shirt in a big purchase of gear from a buddy of mine. Debating putting it in my WRX for events where I live (Arizona). Would definitely be nice in the heat!

Exactly. I think the most time I have spent strapped into my car is about an hour for a 45 minute race. The bigger concern for me is my head sweating and the sweat dripping down into my eyes.
