Ecutek error while reflashing ecu

Trying to reflash my ecu after getting a new license. After applying license updates and updating the ecutek software I tried to program my ecu with a tune, an error occurred and stating
"Programming has failed. This ECU may need to be programmed again before the car will start. Error was: Start Diagnostic Session: 22 conditionNotCorrectOrRequestSequenceError"

After that error, it seems like I can't program my ecu without having to purchase another license. Has anyone seen this before?

So it hasn't taken the licence? Any idea why it failed, knocked connection, plugging anything in while flashing or low battery?

What happens if you manually select the vehicle type and flash that way? That's the usual way to get around a failed flash, but obviously would require a license on the ECU.

My laptop battery was fully charged, nothing else was plugged in besides the dongle and the ecutek cable. I havn't tried manually selecting vehicle type.

I meant car battery rather than laptop.

If you plug in anything to the car like the 12v that can interrupt comms. That's a common cause of failure, as is a low battery. If you need a new license then you'll have to arrange that with your Master Tuner. However it's worth seeing if you can actually flash the car at all. Does it start/run?

I had this happen on mine once when the battery was low after winter storage. It said it took the license but before it was actually applied to the ecu the battery went flat in the car. Had to send a log file to ecutek an they sent me a new license. Put my battery on charge and tried again and it fixed the issue.

Always make sure the cars battery has a good charge. I got very lucky that it died when it did and not mid map transfer or I would have bricked the ecu. Something I was aware could happen from my days of tuning my wrx but didnt cross my mind because I daily drove the WRX so the battery was always good and charged where the brz had just come from storage and the battery had not been on a maintainer.

You can self-recover this type of failure, it's very rare and hard to brick the ECU with ECUtek on the 86. You just manually select the vehicle type and flash again.
