I want more grip than the stock tires with 18x8.5 wheels.

Hi everyone, I ordered a set of Work Emotion Kiwami wheels with a +38 offset. I decided on a 225/40/r18 square setup and basically want to know:

1. 225/40/18 is a bit stretched on an 18x8.5 wheel. Will it be super easy to curb and scratch up my rims? I hope not.

2. I live in Florida, do I really need all season tires? It seems that the summer tires are grippier and it isn't always raining here. Surely most summer tires in 225/40 have better grip than the stock 215/45 Primacy tires in dry+wet conditions.

3. Would basically anything on tire rack that costs around 150+ per tire have better grip than the primacy tires? I see so many tires at around $600 for a set and that seems a bit cheap to me.

I was thinking about these Pirelli P Zero tires:

Or Continental Extreme Contact all seasons:

Thank you all in advance for your help.

From personal experience I can say:

1. Yes

2. No

3. Yes. The stock tires can be pretty terrifying. It's like they have minds of their own. Got rid of mine after a week.

1) Yes

2) No

3) Look into Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. Great tires at a low cost i recently bought these tires and im happy with them as are other members who have bought them.

Thanks guys, I read that I should be fine up to 235/40/18 on TRD springs so I might go that route with the firestone tires.

Is 235/40/18 too much tire for stock power, though? Heavy wheels and tires will already make it feel a bit more sluggish and 235 seems a bit wide if I want okayish acceleration. I’ve never tried it so idk.

Use a tire size comparison calculator. It will show you the difference in sizes. A 235/40 is fairly tall at 25.4", which is a 3.3% diameter difference. +/- 3.0% is generally the rule, though 235/40 will work ok. Personally, I'd get a sticky 225/40/18. The tire selection in this size is HUGE, prices are lower because it is a common size, and it is within the prescribed diameter range.

225/40 compared to the 235/40
If you get the Fire hawk, the 235/40 is only .1 inches wider, but costs $27 more each, weighs 1lbs more, and will make your speedo less accurate.

I agree with Leonardo. I know the stretch look is subjective, but I have seen the tire and wheel spec in person and to me it was a slight stretch. I didn't think it was too bad. If you can help it stick with the 225/40/18.
