I personally think it is important to understand exactly what your car is doing before you start tweaking it. There are a lot of parts that have a symbiotic relationship with each other. You will run into issues and you should be prepared. There's this guy on youtube that has some really good videos explaining how certain things work in cars. His videos are very educational.
