He's an OEM engineer. He needs to think about the failure of components over 100,000+ units. The safety margins of aftermarket setups are simply unacceptable from a manufacturer's perspective. For you they're fine cause you only need to think of one car failing. Toyota has to deal with all of them if they fail under warranty.
