If you are okay lowering for looks and buying Rotas, I'd say "wheels that wide will totally change the driving characteristics of the car and maybe for the worse" is a non-issue. The fact that there is no way to preserve stock scrub radius with wheels that wide shouldn't affect your decision at all.
