Your answer to his question could be misleading to a clueless person. Wider tires&rims don't give you more grip on their own. There are enough people out there that think that wider rubber = larger contact patch, no need to spread that misconception further.
Your answer needs clarification: If one wants to go through corners faster - one needs softer rubber, and then you'd want wider tires to make softer rubber last longer when cornering. And then you need wider rims to hold that wider rubber.
