I've got a MK6 GTI and it's a great multi-purpose car, but doesn't really have the edge or character of a car like the FR-S. It feels pretty soft and has that typical FWD push, so it ends up feeling like every other car out there after a while.
But if you won't be using your car for track/autox/backroads and want something more refined, it might make sense. Just make sure to get the new MK7 with performance pack. APR's stage 1 tune is making 316 hp / 381 tq on pump, which should be fun for very little cost. They claim a 13.2 @ 110 mph quarter mile.
