The battery is either gassing due to an internal malfunction or the case itself is bulging due to excessive heat cycling. In either case it's a goner. Take it to a recycler. Good thing you ordered a new one. 2.5 yrs ain't bad. Did you replace it with an Odyssey or another Powersonic?
