I originally saw the DGM on a friend's STI 5-door and fell in love. I was concerned after seeing some pics on various sites of the BRZ that it was not the same DGM because it seemed so dark but it is - and it's a beautiful color. As others have mentioned it's extremely metallic (in a good way) and can definitely appear... royal... (read: deep purple) in some lighting.
The most difficult color to see on the web is red though. I have yet to see an accurate representation of Lightning Red through photos, but another friend's STI is that color and it looks great in person. It's almost like they used flat red and then glossed it, unlike most of the other colors that look completely glossy/metallic throughout.
