That's the thing, this part doesn't need the bracing that mounting it on top of the trunk would, as the sheet metal is vertical and hence will withstand the load. The drag on the wing pushing it back would be the real concern. And that can easily be sorted out as compared to the hundred plus pounds of down force placed on the thin sheet metal with no bracing on top of the trunk. Plus it would definitely not cause an issue when trying to load items into the trunk
