Very very little. The pockets fill with a deadwater region, similar to the front bottom of a windshield, and the rest of the flow stays attached to the uprights. The radiused front and knife-edge trailing edge still function perfectly even with the pockets. The deadwater region does cause a loss in efficiency due to the slight increase in drag. It was a tradeoff for the weight savings.
