I think you will find that "most" drivers don't care about either. It is car guys that care not the general public. Go ask 20 random people in a shopping mall parking lot how much power their car has. I doubt you would get 5% that could even tell you. Same as you said they can't drive in a straight line the vast majority have never gone WOT in their driving life. Even when they should have!
Now, obviously he was making a review for "car guys" not the general public but that still does not mean that "all" drivers place power over handling.
