The twins are nice modern cars compared to what we had when I was a kid, as a baby my parents drove a lifted step-side chevy with mud tires and custom bent exhaust. My carseat was a chromed frame with a vinyl seat and I survived the rollover of "said Chevy" while riding in it. My ears are fine and I didn't get shaken baby syndrome either.

That said, there are plenty of carseat threads here so you should be able to find something that works. Consider going to a mom and pop shop to buy the seat, they'll usually let you test fit and may consider ordering a specific model for you to try. I would only change the exhaust if the baby seems sensitive to the noise (cries, seems irritated, doesn't sleep during longer rides), same for the suspension. Depending on your patience and your wife's, getting a baby in the back isn't the end of the world, just going to require learning a new skill. *2 cents*
