The WRX and STI have taller effective gear ratios and bigger tire diameters. Unless my understanding of gears is wrong you can't change the shape of the torque curve with gear ratios so it's kind of a moot point anyway. Actually, it's all a moot point. Beyond the 86mm bore and stroke that the motors share, the piston tops, CR, head and fueling are different, hence why the motors behave completely differently, and will continue to do so even with the same turbo.
