It's suppose to prevent some movement in the rear diff, this movement results in a negligible amount of drive train loss. I know the 2008–2010 WRX rear diff movement was so bad you could feel and hear it hit the bottom of the car under heavy acceleration. I had these (well white line diff inserts) on both my 2009 and my 2011 WRX, the 09 needed them the 11 didn't.

My advice is, unless you notice a large about of shift in the drive train while accelerating (other than in the transmission), I'd avoid these. What you gain isn't worth the increase in NVH
