i'm not 100% sure on this, and i'm basing this off of the honda cars i've seen.
anyone with a subaru, feel free to chime in.

all the panels on the car will have a sticker with the vehicle's VIN. if you swap parts/trunks, then you'll have the wrong VIN sticker. the sticker is pretty hard to peel, and i doubt it can be re-used.

it's just a personal preference, but i'd prefer to have a matching VIN sticker. it also helps with re-selling the car in case the buyer wants to know why the sticker doesn't match. if you ever had to replace a panel on your car (from an accident or something), i don't think you'll have a VIN sticker on the panel.
