In addition to IAM you also have to warm the car up before VVT is enabled. I would guess that VVT would be a larger factor that advance. I’m not sure what the threshold temperature is before VVT is enabled. This may not even be an issue at an autox unless your car rests for a long time between groups or something. It would be interesting to see some data logs from an autox.
