That's what they are saying lately. But this engine will come from BMW and not Subaru. Given the current status, we'll only get a 2nd generation FRS and GT86. Subaru cannot go alone with a 2nd generation BRZ. Currently, they are pretty busy to design their uniform platform for their next generation of Forester's, Outback's, WRX's, Legacy's etc. BRZ will not fit really well in this direction because it is a RWD and not an AWD platform. Even now, Subaru mentions that the manufacturing costs of the BRZ are pretty much high. Within Subaru, BRZ is a unique platform of its own!

A 2.5L NA Boxer engine would be much better, but it won't happen. Even the current 2.0L Boxer engine will seem exotic in a few years from now. Porsche is in the design labs to make a 2.0L NA Boxer engine, so you can assume where we are going. Everything will be go back to smaller displacements.
