Not all of the sensors needed to operate all of the gauges are likely in the early models.
There are legal ways to change the cluster. You can find writes ups through Google.
All in all it would probably be cheaper to trade the car in for a 17 then to do all the work and buy all the parts to change the cluster.
Then the 18s will come out with something even better and you will want that.
Then the 19s will come out and... Well you get the picture.
