Jesus, I am in the wrong business. A new direct injector is $172 MSRP and that comes with all new o-rings. You have to remove the manifold so you would need a new gasket there too. So they are getting a ton of money in labor. The job really isn't that bad. Not enough labor to justify $1300.
I suspect the injector itself is fine and it's just a seal that is bad. The seals are $3 but need a special tool ($120) to replace them.
Have you been hearing any popping from the engine bay? Typically bad DI seals produce what people refer to as "firecracker sounds". If you don't have that symptom then maybe it isn't just a bad seal.
Regardless it sounds like they are looking to profit off something that should be covered under powertrain.
