I was really thinking more about them remaining monospec for 2017, which seems to imply that this was a decision made after the supply chain was set up to produce a "face lift" Scion FR-S in 2017. Had this been in the plans for quite some time, they could have introduced a tier Toyota version as they already have that in other parts of the world, but would be disruptive to the supply chain if done "last minute".

Oh hell the monospec thing they could have changed in a minute. Not like they don't already have access to the parts. Not many (smart) suppliers penalize them for upping orders. That is more a play when orders get cut.
