Informed guess...but I have my 2015 amd the 2020 I can drive back to back to compare. Plus I am a musician so my "ear" is pretty good. The 2020 definitely is a bit quieter.
I will say that the sound quality from the 2015 head unit is better, with more robust bass and more control over tonal options. The 2015 head unit fit all Scions but was "tuned" for the FR-S. The 2020 head unit is actually pretty cheap and simple, sounds a bit tinny, and has only very basic tone controls that don't seem to actually do much. But it does support Android Auto, which was important to me.
As a musician, I listen to LOTS of classical music and Jazz. In the greater Boston area, we have the best classical on 99.5 WCRB. I can get this with HD FM on the 2015 head unit from two different transmitters. I use my phone to get 91.1 KCSM Jazz from the SF bay area and to get WCRB when travelling.
